How to Make Decisions That Move You Forward

Leadership quote by Vanessa Judelman on purple background: Decisions give you data, bring you clarity, and get you closer to what you actually want - Mosaic People Development

The decisions you make create your life!

So, today we are going to discuss a leadership competency that is too often overlooked: making decisions.

The Chronic Problem of Waffling

To be honest, I see a chronic issue with decision-making.

I see a lot of waffling!!

What do I mean? Waffling on a decision means hesitating and revisiting the same choice without moving forward.

Instead of deciding, you waffle.

One day, the decision feels right.

The next day, you change your mind.

Waffling ensures that you stay stuck. You trick yourself into thinking that you are “considering” the decision. You are not. You are waffling. Please don’t waffle anymore!

Why Leaders Resist Making Decisions

You don’t move your career, your business, your team or your life forward by waffling.

Why do you tend to resist making decisions?

Fear.

Fear of making the wrong decision. You have to learn to trust yourself and choose faith over fear.

There Are No Wrong Decisions—Only Data

What I have learned over the years is that there is no wrong decision.

Every decision moves you forward.

Decisions give you data.

They bring you clarity.

They get you closer to what you actually want.

Even when a decision doesn’t work out, it still leads you to a better one.

From Toxic Job to Thriving Career

I have a great example to share with you.

A client of mine left a toxic job that she’d been in for 10 years. She hated this job for five years before she left, but she chose comfort over change. She kept telling herself that a new job and a new environment would be too draining.

Eventually, she had enough! She realized that life is too short and she needed a new job.

At first, her new job was great. She loved the organization and the people. Unfortunately, after about six months, she started having challenges with her boss.

A year later, she realized this new job was not the right fit for her.

And that was okay.

That role was a bridge.

It gave her confidence.

It helped her to clarify what she truly needed.

Today, she’s in a new role that is aligned with her values, and she’s thriving.

Your Challenge: Stop Avoiding and Start Deciding

So, let me ask you:

What decision are you avoiding right now?

Are you ready to commit to yourself and make the decision? Let’s go!

I want you to make 2026 the year that you move from waffling to strategic decisions.

Trust yourself.

Even if it’s hard.

Even if it’s uncomfortable.

If you make a decision and things don’t work out, then make a new decision and get back on track!

If you make no decision, you may just live with regret.

Start with a small decision.

Build your decision-making muscle.

Do what you know is right…even when it’s difficult.

That’s leadership.
