How to give feedback in uncertain times

There is one question that I am being asked quite a lot right now.

Here it is…

“Vanessa, since it is such a sensitive time, should I still be giving feedback?”

My short answer to that question is…absolutely.

Now, here is a question I’d like to ask you.

Since it is a sensitive time, should you change the way you give feedback?

The short answer is…yes!

The reason being is that many of us are struggling or emotionally drained these days.

You or someone on your team may be struggling:

  • To lead virtually
  • To work with kids at home
  • To deal with an unhealthy relationship
  • To deal with isolation or depression
  • And the list goes on…

You might want to avoid giving feedback because you are afraid that you are going to open a pandora’s box or have to deal with personal issues or someone being overly emotional.

I get it.

You are not a trained psychologist. Nor do you have to be.

So, in this video, I’m going to demonstrate how to give feedback when:

  • You don’t know how to give good feedback virtually
  • There may be something personal lurking behind poor performance

You can do this!  Go beyond your comfort zone and try. Avoiding issues doesn’t make them go away…it just exacerbates them.

You’ve got this!
