How to be an inspiring leader

Many leaders wonder what they need to do to be inspiring.
In fact, this topic came up earlier this week when my coaching client asked me:

“How do I inspire my team in our current environment?”
The answer is not cookie cutter.
It depends on your workstyle.
If you are passionate and dynamic…add that to your list. But this person is high on the introversion scale so that did not feel authentic to him.He created a great list and it felt really authentic, including:

  • Show general interest in others
  • Be personable
What does it mean to you to be inspiring?
Here are some ideas on how to inspire your team:
  • Lead by example
  • Act with integrity
  • Be kind
  • Listen
  • Share your vision
  • Set stretch goals
  • Work collaboratively
  • Provide lots of recognition
  • Spend time developing your people
  • Connect with people on a personal level
  • Bring passion to your work

What 2-3 things on this list can you implement to be a more inspiring leader?
