How to leverage your past to excel today!

Drama has been a passion of mine since I was about eight years old.

In fact, I was a drama major at a high school for the performing arts. Yes, like Fame or Glee… but there was much less dancing on the tables!!

You may wonder how your past experiences as an artist, musician, athlete, chess player, restaurant hostess, etc…, can help your professional career.

Well, I strongly believe that you can use all of your past skills to help you be more confident and competent in your professional life.

For example, I have realized that my drama training is actually a superpower in my professional life.

It’s given me the confidence to deliver powerful and engaging keynote speeches.

It keeps my clients engaged during Zoom workshops. We all know how tough that can be!

It has helped me to connect with both clients and my team and develop high-trust relationships.

The workplace is always better off when you harness your strengths and past experiences.

So, how can you do this?

Consider how your past jobs or experiences help you to:

  1. Bring a unique perspective to problem-solving at work
  2. Connect with others in a more authentic way
  3. Bring a strong work ethic to your career
  4. Develop strong communication skills
  5. Bring fresh ideas to your role

When we bring our authentic selves to work, including all of our past skills and experiences, we are more engaged, more creative, and honestly, just happier.

So, here’s my challenge to you: What’s one skill or experience from your past that you’ve been holding back at work?

How can you start integrating that skill in a professional way?

I know that this experience will help you to excel today!
