The truth about recognition

Do you need recognition or can you do your job just fine without it?

This is an important question that came up in a coaching call with one of my clients this week. She leads a team of 6 people. She has never needed recognition. So, as a leader, she feels frustrated that some of her direct reports constantly crave it.

The truth is…some people just don’t value or need recognition.

They can do without it and still be engaged by doing interesting and challenging work.

However, for other people, recognition is a MUST!!!

Without it, they will not feel appreciated or valued.

As a leader, you need to recognize this difference.

You need to understand that other people have different needs than you do.

You can’t judge people who value different things than you.

Give recognition where recognition is due.

I’ll share three specific examples with you in this week’s video.
