2 Lessons I Didn’t Expect to Learn in Sedona

Have you ever been somewhere where the mountains seem to have personality?

That was my experience in Sedona.

The only word I can use to describe arriving there for the first time is awe. I felt as though the mountains welcomed me with warmth, calm and loving energy.

Many friends had told me Sedona has healing energy.

They were not wrong.

I have honestly never experienced anything quite like it.

If you’ve been to Sedona, I’d love to hear what you experienced there.

So, what did I learn during my four days in Sedona?

I learned that if you look for magic, you will find it.

I learned that when you believe in the impossible, surprising things can happen.

Let me explain.

Why I Decided to Track the Magic

Because I had been told Sedona was magical, I decided I would keep track of all the “magical moments” that happened while I was there.

Here’s one example.

Water spilled all over my laptop during the flight to Sedona after the air pressure popped the top off my water bottle. This very laptop I’m typing on right now sputtered, the screen went black, and it completely shut down.

I’ll admit it, I cursed a few times when this happened!

Then I surrendered. I turned the laptop upside down and went to sleep.

The next morning, I turned it on and it worked perfectly. It was good as new.

I was shocked.

Was I lucky? Was it a little Sedona energy and magic? Your guess is as good as mine.

The reason I went to Sedona was to participate in a women’s retreat.

The Spoon That Changed My Perspective

Two metal spoons bent by hand, held up against a blurred outdoor backdrop in Sedona, Arizona, representing the power of mindset and intention. On day three, a beautiful woman named Zenka came into the retreat centre and confidently told us we were all going to bend spoons using our energy and intention.

I truly had no idea what she was talking about.

She guided us through a 30-minute process of breathing, grounding and visualization. We then focused on the spoon with the intention of softening it so we could bend it.

Somehow it worked!

Not once, but twice, the spoon softened in my hands and bent with almost no effort.

I still cannot explain what happened and honestly, I would never have believed it if I hadn’t experienced it myself.

2 Life Lessons I’m Taking Home From Sedona

So here are the two biggest life lessons I took away from Sedona:

1. The power of your mind is greater than you think.

The power of your mind and your capabilities far exceed what you think is possible. Sedona taught me to believe in the impossible. I will never forget the experience of bending those spoons.

2. What you focus on expands.

If you focus on the negative things in your life and environment, you will naturally notice more negativity. Alternatively, if you focus on possibility, gratitude and positive moments, you begin to notice more of those too.

The choice is yours.

Where Are You Putting Your Focus?

I’m not saying life suddenly becomes easy.

I am saying that I expect more magic now.

In my opinion, that perspective feels a whole lot better than focusing on downsizing, budget cuts, bad leadership and recession headlines.

Again, the choice is yours.

Where are you putting your time, focus, and energy?

What might shift if you allowed just a little more magic into your life?
